Why is fitness important?

I think, in a nutshell, fitness is about improving your development as a human being.

There’s always room for improvement no matter what you do. If you can commit to yourself and find the things in your life that are beneficial to you, then you can optimize your human development.

Think about the best movements for you – what do they look like? How do they help you grow and stretch to new heights? Think about the available tools at your disposal. In yoga, we have mats, blocks, straps, rollers – the list goes on. There are also different class types, there are apps, all kinds of different workouts to better your athletic performance. The same exists for however you choose to exercise.

If you’re always challenging yourself in new ways, then you’re always moving forward. You’re gaining strength, increasing mobility, finding balance, bettering your stability, stretching your flexibility, and ultimately strengthening your focus. Your mind plays a huge role in your ultimate health.

A calm mind can help get clarity and allow you to move beyond physical health into mental health. Is there a book that inspires you? What kind of music gets you fired up to get you going? Do I need to rest? Would peace and quiet and doing nothing but breathing help me achieve mindfulness?

You also need to think about what foods make you feel good (or not so good)?  Are there foods you should avoid? Everyone is unique in their dietary needs – low carb, high protein, keto, gluten-free, dairy free, vegan, vegetarian – whatever your needs, you need to make them habits and work to make those changes and feed your body appropriately.

Ask yourself these questions with the idea that it will lead you to a feeling of whole optimization. Then, think about all these changes you’ve made, all these small, little habits to improve your life – do you think you’d be happier? Happiness is the path of constant improvement, there is no destination. You need to be continually walking this path. Think about how a path of constant improvement affects how the way you manage your emotions. Do you still worry? Is there fear? Are you anxious?

If you could make one statement/change one thing about the industry, what would it be?

If I can make a change in this industry, it’s that It’s important to see fitness in multiple facets, whether its physical fitness, mental fitness, or emotional fitness.  It’s about getting the most out of this human experience with this limited time we have on this planet.  Spreading the most positive energy and having the best time.

I think this change is viable because it reframes what fitness actually is all about.  It’s not always a physical thing. It’s a feeling. Feeling healthy is performing at your best in everything you do in life.  It’s choosing, knowing and learning what is the best way to achieve your goals, to achieve your dreams.

Why is physiotherapy important to your overall health?

I think when we are talking about physiotherapy, we’re talking about function; It’s about being aware of how we are using our physical bodies in terms of movement.  When we think about our bodies, we automatically think we should have form, posture, and our body mechanics being pain free and with full range of motion. That’s optimal for humans.

But we can’t have form without function, and we can’t have posture without form. We humans, we get lazy, we have accidents, and we don’t always work towards human optimization. If we’re taking short cuts, if we veer off our goals, if we lose focus, we develop injuries, or illness, or disabilities, and physiotherapy is one valuable tool we need in our arsenal. It helps treat and diagnose these symptoms to get us working towards efficiency and total human optimization again. It gets us back on the right path.
