Rapid Access Clinic for Low Back Pain

We have Advanced Practice Practitioners who have extensive training and experience in assessing Low Back Pain for our patients in Markham and Stouffville.   

If you need care beyond seeing a physiotherapist, we make recommendations to both the practice lead at MSH and your Primary Care Physician to facilitate the next steps. These steps could include referral for exercise therapy, Specialist Consults (Surgeons, Rheumatologists, Physiatrists, counsellors) or assessments for Diagnostic Imaging needs. 

Do I have to go through this program if I have low back pain?

• No.  You can still come to see us for Physiotherapy assessment and treatment of your low back pain without going through this program. 

If I want to go through the RAC program for my low back pain, how do I do it?

• You can ask your Primary Care Physician to refer your to the RAC program for Low Back Pain.  You will be geo-matched to the closest available Advanced Practice Practitioner. 

How long are the Physiotherapy Assessments?

• These Assessments are for more complex low back pain patients and usually take about an hour to complete.

Is there any treatment involved?

• The treatment plan varies and could include exercise prescription, expedited referrals to specialists or referral to get expedited access to diagnostic imaging.
