According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), Acupuncture can help ease chronic pain in the neck, lower back, and knees. It's also scientifically proven to help with chronic headaches and even migraines.
It is also said to reduce stress, eye tension, boost your immune system, help digestion, increase energy, provides allergy relief, and for us at The Physio Spot, it means fewer injuries from repetitive strain. It's why we like to use Acupuncture in combination with other treatments to help you move better.
Thin needles inserted into the skin at specific points to various depths.
Acupuncture is a relaxing and gentle treatment. The needles themselves are metallic and thin as a human hair. Each patient may have different experiences with acupuncture but most feel little to no pain as the needles are inserted. After the needle is put into the pressure or tension point, it might feel like a twitch as the muscle relaxes and releases its tension. If anything, you may have a mild aching sensation or warmth where the needle was inserted into your skin. We do highly recommend booking acupuncture with a trained professional in best acupuncture practices.

Acupuncture is based on a 3,000 year old traditional Chinese medicine to improve function and promote natural self-healing processes by stimulating acupuncture points. Typically, this is done by inserting sterile and ultra thin needles into the skin and to the superficial nerves and fascia of the body. At the Physio Spot, we accentuate the therapy with manual massage, ultrasound and other heat therapies.
Ancient Chinese philosophy describes the universe, and the body, in terms of two opposing forces. You might better know them as the yin and yang. They exist best together and when these two forces are in perfect balance. With this ultimate balance, the body is healthy, and full of energy. This energy is called "qi" (pronounced Chee). Our Qi flows through meridians which are specific pathways that keep our yin and yang in check. If the meridian is blocked, our Qi stops, and our energy slows. This blockage may lead to pain, loss of function, or just simply a general feeling of being sick.
Acupuncture therapy stimulates function. It kickstarts the body into a natural healing process. There are many benefits to acupuncture - it might be time to see if it can work for you.
With all the benefits and minimal side effects or drawbacks, it makes sense to see what relief you can get from acupuncture. We have trained professionals at our Markham physiotherapy clinic standing by to help you move better.
We expanded our services with a new Stouffville physiotherapy clinic.
